On Tuesday 7 May Savona will be at the center of one of the most important sporting events of the season. The Giro d’Italia, in fact, passes through Savona and brings to the city a series of top-notch events that will attract crowds of curious people and cycling enthusiasts. In addition to the passage of the stage, the departure of the E-Bike tour and the passage of the caravan are also scheduled. Not only that: Piazza del Popolo, Via Manzoni, Via Astengo will host the Giro d’Italia E-Bike Village which in the subsequent stages in the rest of Italy will promote the city of Savona and its tourist attractions.
“After 10 years, Savona returns to host the Giro – says Francesco Rossello, Councilor for Sport – taking advantage of the extraordinary promotional opportunity offered by one of the most important sporting events in the world. The inconveniences that the people of Savona will certainly have to face on May 7th will be compensated by the wide visibility that the city will gain thanks to the live television on Rai and Eurosport and the many collateral initiatives that will allow us to promote our excellence”.
Councilor Rossello therefore explains: “In particular, our food and wine specialties will be presented in the Tourist Village; in Piazza Pertini there will be trade associations that will offer Savona products to citizens; Furthermore, the pink shop windows initiative will dress up our entire city with celebration. The invitation to all the people of Savona is to come and visit the village, even for
attend the start of the E-Bike race and meet great champions of the past such as Bugno, Chiappucci, Tafi and Cunego”.
In conclusion Rossello underlines that “hosting the start of the E-Bike stage has a meaning that goes beyond the sporting competition because it is a way to promote sustainable mobility and good practices related to environmental protection”.
GENERAL INFORMATIONS
The race will affect the Aurelia from Torretta towards Andora along the entire stretch. It will also cross the city center and the districts of Villapiana and Lavagnola. There are several passages between 12pm and 4pm. In many cases, with the exception of emergency vehicles, it is not possible to provide an alternative road system. Therefore the indication is not to use the machine to move or, in any case, not to plan for its use between 12.30 and 16.
THE TIMES
12pm – Departure of the E-bike tour. The roads (see the list in the ‘Departure of the E-Bike Tour’ chapter) will be closed only for the time necessary to allow the ride and caravan to pass, approximately 10-15 minutes, and will then be reopened
12.30 – 13.00 Permanent road closure
1pm – New passage of the e-bike tour from the center of Savona
2.30 pm – Passage of the Giro advertising caravan which will stop in Corso Italia offering moments of entertainment and gadgets.
3.30 pm – 4.00 pm (depending on average speed) Passage of the professional Giro d’Italia
HOW THE ROAD CHANGES
In compliance with the provisions of the Ministry of the Interior, the roads will be closed approximately from 12.30 to 16.
TOUR PASSAGE – WHICH ROADS ARE AFFECTED
Via Nazionale Piemonte (from the roundabout at the end of Corso Ricci the race will enter Lavagnola) – via Crispi – via Torino – via Verdi – via San Lorenzo – via Cavour – Piazza Saffi – via Boselli – Largo Vegerio – via N. Sauro – Piazza Mameli – via Paleocapa – piazza Leon Pancaldo – via Gramsci – C.so Mazzini – via Montenotte (towards the sea) – c.so Colombo – c.so Vittorio Veneto – via Nizza – Zinola – Vado Ligure.
In some streets of Villapiana and the center it will be necessary to place a parking ban with removal according to times that will be communicated in the next few days. We will, however, try to limit the inconvenience to citizens as much as possible.
DEPARTURE OF THE E-BIKE TOUR – WHICH ROADS ARE AFFECTED The departure will take place around 12 and will briefly (about fifteen minutes) affect some streets which will only be involved at the time of the passage which will take place in a group. Here are the streets: piazzale Amburgo – c.so Svizzera – via Caravaggio – via Bonini – via NS del Monte – Cadibona
PARKING LOTS
From 8pm on 6 May until 8pm on 7 May, the 966 parking spaces in the Piazza del Popolo car park and the 368 in the Viale Piave car park will be available free of charge. Furthermore, the car park at the Il Gabbiano shopping center will be available on the 6th and 7th, without any night closures.
SCHOOLS
On day 7 the nurseries will be closed. Pupils from the Savona school districts (nursery, primary and lower secondary schools) will leave early at 12.
Leaving secondary schools, however, will be regulated by the provisions that the managers will issue for each individual institute.
PRINCIPALS 118
In case of emergency, the regular passage of all emergency vehicles will be guaranteed. Furthermore, 118 will guarantee a presence with an ambulance and medical car in Piazza Brennero, serving the Villapiana Alta, La Rusca, Lavagnola and internal areas.
