The day of art and music returns to fill Piazza Roma

CREMONA – There is excitement in the city center due to the initiative of the provincial student council which has revived the traditional day of art and music. A few hundred girls and boys gathered in the public gardens where, among colorful banners and the accompaniment of DJ music, they spent a different morning than usual.

“As representatives of the consultation we have decided to try to bring this day back to the numbers of the past – explains the president of the consultation Alice Masserdotti dell’Anguissola – and it seems to me that the result for the moment is excellent!”. The event had been quiet for years but this time the organization paid off: “Certainly the collaboration with Apesi and the music in the square attracted many students. We had already organized an artistic exhibition but participation had not been very satisfactory so we thought of a more festive moment, in which the kids could participate even just to be together and experience the city, for a morning, in a different way than usual”.

And this time the initiative hit the mark: small groups of young and very young people swarm the streets of the historic center, some dance in front of the pagoda in Piazza Roma where the DJ station is located, others relax on the lawn. Unusual scenes for Cremona which certainly made some professors turn up their noses as they would have preferred to see the students among the desks.

“We encountered some resistance in recent days but in the end the principals who joined were very cooperative – says Masserdotti -. Of course it is sad that so many schools are missing but we hope that this year’s good result can be a stimulus to broaden participation in the coming years. One of the problems is that unfortunately the consultation is not even known in some schools that have not elected their representatives, events like this serve precisely to raise awareness of our body and the initiatives that we can carry out to the entire student population”.

This year there were only three schools that joined the initiative of the provincial council – Manin, Aselli and Anguissola – but the limited participation of the city institutes was compensated by the enthusiasm of the students. This morning there wasn’t a free bench in the gardens and the air we breathed gave more than ever the idea of a young and lively city.
