“Miraggi e Memorie” is the title of the important exhibition dedicated to the visionary drawings of the surrealist Fabrizio Clerici which will be proposed by the Edonè “arte viva club” gallery in via Cavour 39 in Vittoria. The vernissage on Saturday from 8pm. The exhibition will give the opportunity to admire together various works by a great protagonist of twentieth-century Italian art, a refined painter, but also set designer and illustrator, an eclectic and curious artist, capable of creating dreamlike and enigmatic worlds full of charm, inspired by its vast classical and mythological culture. His training as an architect and his meeting with Alberto Savinio marked his artistic path, oriented towards surrealism but with a metaphysical vision, which is expressed through the use of architectural elements, symbolism and symbolic play.
The exhibition is divided into two specific moments of the author’s career: the beginnings with the twenty plates created by Clerici for Leoncillo’s Bestiary in 1941 and the works of the Seventies, with a group of works strongly inspired by Egyptian culture and myths, exhibited in 1978 in an important solo exhibition of the author in Cairo, and linked to Clerici’s strong fascination with the magic of ancient Egypt. Here the artist’s language changes, demonstrating his own very personal linguistic and iconographic key, here recurring figures such as the falcon-god Horus and the ram sphinxes dominate the scene, powerful symbols of protection and mystery. These images, imbued with historical and spiritual meaning, reflect the artist’s ongoing search for a connection between the distant past and the present. Plus, also works related to Greek mythology. “The exhibition – say the curators Giovanni and Livio Bosco – contains with the selected works the vision that Clerici had in art and life. Cultured, refined, visionary. Works which, in addition to his own art, fully summarize the character of Fabrizio Clerici, a secluded set designer and painter, who enjoyed the esteem of many writers and important art historians. We are talking about an artist who, with her creativity, even managed to fascinate Salvador Dalì, so much so that a long partnership was born. An artist with great visionary ability, who will be able to immerse you in the charm of his dream universes.”
