The 2024 season of Asd Atoms’ Chieti opens with a very important double success, winning the national Serie B championship on its debut, beating Big Mat Grosseto 2-1 and 5-3.
The scores of the two games show the great balance on the pitch: in game 1 the Atoms went behind in the third inning with the score remaining stuck at 0-1 for the guests until the seventh inning. When everything was suggesting a negative ending, here comes the turning point: first a slip by pitcher Anna Salvatore, then a single by Sara Mammarella, aided by an indecision from the defense, which brings home the equalizing point.
We go to extra innings and the Atoms do well to finish without conceding any points. The attack then takes care of scoring the final 2-1 with a nice slide to home plate by Margherita Pasqualoni, who entered shortly before to guarantee greater speed on the bases.
Same script in game 2. For the Atoms, Giulia D’Aviero and Giorgia Di Santo kept the Tuscan clubs at bay. But we had to wait until the fifth inning to score the 2 decisive points, which arrived thanks to a triple from Di Santo herself, which put the result in the safe.
Next Sunday (5 May) the Atoms’ will play again at home, on the “Tommy Lasorda” diamond in Tollo (game 1 at 12:00 – game 2 to follow) against Cali Roma.
And in recent days the youth activity of Atoms’ has also resumed, dedicated to girls aged 7 to 14: every Tuesday and Friday, from 6pm to 7pm in Chieti Scalo (“Santa Filomena” baseball field, in via Amiterno) Free lessons dedicated to girls who want to try the game of softball will be held.
