PADUA – A 79-year-old woman originally from Benevento, FR, arrives in Padua to be cared for by her son due to his repeated health problems. A few days after her arrival she felt ill and called 118. After four hours she was discharged. We are in June 2022: after three weeks he will discover that he has a tumor and after three months he will die. A complaint filed in recent days with the prosecutor’s office talks about all this.

Pancreatic cancer, symptoms

As of 2021 the woman accused severe pain and after turning to his own general practitioner and have done seven specialist visits between October 2021 and May 2022, the results had not revealed any resolution of the symptoms. In June the pain continues. So the son who lives in the province decides to have his mother come to Padua. A few days after her arrival the woman feels ill: suffers acute pain and a state of confusion, so her son decides to call 118. The woman is visited in the emergency room by a doctor and is given a paracetamol drip for the pain. Despite the insistence of her son, who asked for hospitalization and to speak to the head of the department, the woman will be discharged with a diagnosis of “hyporexia and weight loss”. The papers state that the patient is informed “of the need to be taken care of by the general practitioner and that this can be made possible with temporary healthcare domiciliation”. According to the son, however, the doctor “refused to proceed with further investigations or possibly hospitalization which would have been necessary to have a full understanding of the situation and limited herself to describing my mother’s clinical condition at the time of taking charge and then discharge her and entrust her to the “territorial medicine” services. A few days after the visit to the emergency room, the woman returns to Benevento following a crisis similar to the one that had brought her to the emergency room in Padua admitted to Benevento hospital. In a few days the diagnosis: pancreatic cancer, which still leaves her with a few months to live. According to the son, the whole ordeal they have suffered is an injustice and so the complaint was filed.

Hospitals and doctors reported

In November 2023, the complaint against several doctors and hospital facilities between Padua and Benevento was delivered to the Albignasego carabinieri station. Following the report by the son of the two white coats from Padua, the case was closed to the Padua Medical Association for “failure to violate the code of ethics”.
