CASERTA – The hope this May 1st is that the celebration will be accompanied by reflection. This is what the General Secretary of Cisal Caserta Ferdinando Palumbo writes in a message of good wishes sent to the press this morning. This province, the trade unionist argues, demands a decisive change of direction; a decalogue of priorities is needed which, as far as we are concerned, cannot ignore development, employment, legality, safety, pollution, agriculture, industry, health, inclusion and equal opportunities, a turning point that can get us out of the shackles that relegate us to the last places in the national quality of life rankings. Listening to every single reality, monitoring and solving the difficulties and critical issues in every corner of the province will be necessary so that a social spring can flourish that starts from the people, from the base. It is appropriate to untie the cordon of the notables which blocks choices, which silences diversity and which therefore does not release new energies. Our thoughts inexorably go to the workers involved in the many industrial crises for which there is no horizon in sight, to the relatives of those who have lost their lives at work, to the families of the disabled who are always in trouble and to the women who are too often underpaid and discriminated against. There is an urgent need for valorization and coordination policies for tourism and agri-food, sectors that could be a driving force for recovery. In the meantime, our free voice will continue to be a loud megaphone, a constant prod against the self-referentiality of a ruling class that has too often proven to be a failure. A demonstration, a trip out of town, a walk by the sea will serve tomorrow to regenerate our strength and conscience to get into that extra gear we need.
