Game, fun, sharing, prayer, service, smiles and simplicity are essential elements for all of us. They are especially true for children who, by spending a special day like this together, “brush up” on the value of being together, without cell phones and without social media.

MINISTRANTS’ DAY WEDNESDAY 1 May 2024

At the feast of altar servers on May 1st we would like to make people understand the invitation made by Pope Francis: «in every place we must develop and strengthen our capacity for cordial welcome much more […], living paths of free love and promotion, of affirmation and growth. Making ‘home’ […] it’s learning to feel united with others in order to feel life a little more human. Creating a home means allowing our hours and days to be more hospitable, creating bonds that are built with simple, everyday gestures that we can all do […]. Thus the miracle of experiencing that here one is born again takes place […] because we feel the effective caress of God which makes it possible for us to dream of the most human and, therefore, most divine world».

Game, fun, sharing, prayer, service, smiles and simplicity are essential elements for all of us. They are especially true for children who, by spending a special day like this together, “brush up” on the value of being together, without cell phones and without social media. With contagious and festive joy, between one game and another, between dancing and singing, competitions and moments of prayer, the children truly live the experience of “making a home”.

The feast of the altar boys is therefore now an important and consolidated event for our Diocese. An event that reminds us how precious it is to create simple bonds between us, in every place and moment, and how the things that count are being, doing and living together animated by the same spirit of brotherhood. And children are teachers in this, the Gospel also tells us: “if you do not return as children..”.

There is always something to learn. These moments of sharing are useful for children to find themselves and for adults to remember to be a little more like them.

“Just believe”. It’s up to us how to read the sentence.

And then on May 1st, whether this is also an opportunity to be there will make the difference.

Don Stefano Mattiuzzo, head of the office for vocations.
