On May 5, 2024 the Illegal version of the Bottega del Caffè
On Sunday 5 May 2024, at 5.30 pm at the Cloister of Santa Maria di Castello, the Compagnia Gli Illegali – BlogAL returns with an Alexandrian reinterpretation of the famous Goldoni comedy.
Sunday 5 May 2024 at the Cloister of Santa Maria di Castello (Piazza Santa Maria di Castello – Alessandria), as part of the 10 Years – Il Chiostro&Friends!! event, the theater company Gli Illegali – BlogAL will welcome its audience at half past five offering everyone a very Italian coffee peppered with chatter and Alexandrian gossip.
On the occasion of the last appointment of the exhibition The Wayfarers’ Theatre, in fact, the company, which has the Alessandria area as its main point of reference for content as well as audience, has chosen to stage a dramaturgical reworking of Carlo Goldoni’s famous comedy “La bottega del caffè”.
Massimo Brioschiauthor of this Alexandrian revisitation and updating of Goldoni’s text, presents the show like this:
In the coffee shop, Goldoni wrote about places that were very familiar to him: Venice, its clubs, the carnival, the people who boasted of wealth, those who lost everything at gambling. Our shop, instead, has the Tanaro and the Bormida in the background and the customers discuss football, play Bingo, have a smartwatch. But they too boast of wealth and play and work and betray each other and carry out subterfuge.
It is a departure, but only an apparent one. We do this to get even closer to his spirit. We too, like Goldoni, have tried to tell what we see and have those same characters speak with today’s bar chatter, taken from new places of discussion: social media.
In short, don’t expect the usual Goldoni. But don’t expect less Goldoni, on the contrary. We hope to give you as much of it as possible, we hope to be able to give you what Goldoni gave to his spectators: fun, light-heartedness, verisimilitude, contemporaneity, authenticity.
The shop opens for a good hour, the best thing, in that good hour, in our opinion is to leave the house and come and “drink a good coffee”. In our company and that of Goldoni, or at least of his spirit.
The entrance ticket is 7 euros (booking on the website ordini.it/prenota) to attend this “abundant hour” of show in which a large and cheerful group of old and new “illegal” actors will compete at the tables of the shop: Silvia Benzi, Massimo Brioschi, Gian Franco Cereda, Claudia Chiodi, Antonio Coccimiglio, Cecilia De Angelis, Luigi Di Carluccio, Monica Lombardi, Maurizio Pellegrino. While Luigi Di Carluccio worked on the direction, Monica Lombardi worked on the costumes, Giuseppe Ruggiero was the audio technician and the backstage photos were taken by Patrizia Battegazzorre.
The show was produced by Compagnia Gli Illegali – BlogAL and is part of the “The Theater of Wayfarers” project, funded by the SociAL Foundation as part of the Smart 2022 Call, a traveling street theater review, which accompanied the public throughout 2023 along some thematic itineraries of the city of Alessandria.
