TRAPANI – Sea rescue intervention for the Air Force off the coast of Trapani. In action a HH-139B helicopter of the 82nd SAR Center, based on Birgi military airport. The helicopter intervened to recover and rescue a 24-year-old Greek seafarer by urgently transporting him to hospital.
The operation and transfer to hospital
The intervention on an oil tanker flying the Liberian flag, sailing about forty miles north of the Trapani coast, a 24 year old seafarer of Greek nationality needing to be urgently transferred to hospital.
Operations at sea
The crew – a specialized team made up of pilots, on-board operator and air rescuer – took off from the military base and, after having taken on board a doctor at the Sant’Antonio Abate hospital in Trapani, reached the tanker ship ‘Samsara’. The air rescuer lowered himself with the winch and recovered the young man and then transferred him to hospital.
