Pride returns to Cuneo “to celebrate rights, freedom and memory…”

The 1st of June will return from 3pm to 7pm Cuneo Pride on the streets of our capital. The procession will start from Piazza della Constitution, and then continue along Corso Nizza, reaching Piazza Galimberti, turning towards Rondò Garibaldi and walking along Viale Angeli reaching the Parco della Resistenza, already the destination of the last Cuneo Pride. Guest for the occasion Natasha Maesi, National President of Arcigay who will give the final speech at the monument to the Resistance. Cuneo Pride is ready to return, and this year it presents itself with the theme “WE are Pride”, the pride that grows together with personal awareness within society and the territory; an invitation to take care of yourself and celebrate diversity as an essential element of growth. The march of reclamation inspired by the historical values of Pride will be held on June 1st, continuing the traditional fight for the rights and full inclusion of the LGBTQIA+ community.

It is not just a colorful celebration, but a reminder of the continuous fight for everyone’s rights and freedoms; This year more than ever, we reflect on the fact that rights are never earned forever.
In the words of the President Elisabetta Solazzi: “This year Arcigay Cuneo turns 15 years since its foundation and it was necessary to reflect on the activities carried out, the services provided and the social impact created on the territory. In 2009 as now, there was a strong need to be visible and talk about the LGBT+ community in Arcigay GrandaQueer lgbt APS – Cuneo 1 of 5 everyday life, to fully understand the needs, the protection needs that are still missing today. We believe that in our country the situation is not very different from the 1969 riots in America: rights constantly questioned; prejudice and manifestations of intolerance always present and often unpunished; force of a policy ideologically aligned against the LGBT+ community, also supported by a large part of the Church, which does not favor the growth of a secular state like ours”.

“The Pride March – we read in the note from Arcigay CuneoGrandaqueerevery year, it moves thousands of people around the world to claim the legitimacy of their well-being and actions; and it is a privilege to be able to convey such a powerful feeling to Cuneo too, reiterating here too WE are here and we want full rights, for families, for children, for trans people, at work, and in daily life, always, and we want it because it’s right.” Pride is not just for yourself, but for those in many parts of the world who are still persecuted, tortured and marginalized because of their identity. In 72 countries, homosexuality is still considered a crime. Pride is an act of solidarity and remembrance for all the people who marched before us, whose sacrifices made the progress we have achieved possible. This initiative looks to the heart of the expectations of the LGBT+ community, broadening awareness and sharing the needs of this important part of the population. The event on June 1st will resume this modality by re-proposing the historical form of banners and posters, a small act that has produced big changes. For the occasion, workshops will be organized a few days before for the creation of posters and banners. The Cuneo Pride procession is the most visible but final act of a year of work for Arcigay Cuneo which is organizing a series of events in May for the occasion as a preparatory activity for the march”.

At Palazzo Santa Croce from 3 -11 May, panels for historical and educational use on the evolution of the LGBT+ community will be exhibited, the historical figures starting from the first precursors of activism in the 19th century, moving on to the events of the early 20th century, up to the actions and goals achieved in today’s era. During the exhibition period, guests will be: for the inauguration of the representatives of Agape, the Waldensian Ecumenical Centre, to talk about the experience of the Agape camps and promote their activity; and on the final day of the exhibition Claudio Tosi, national Arcigay delegate for culture, history and memory, for a guided tour full of anecdotes.

In view of the event, workshops will be organized for the creation of posters and banners, accompanied by conferences, meetings, book presentations and moments of celebration. “Join us – is the appeal – in this march to celebrate diversity, defend rights and build a more inclusive future for all”.
