ANCONA – He would have abandoned his dog, an 8-year-old mixed breed, leaving him without medicine and nourishment. It is with accusations of mistreatment and abandonment of animals that a 40-year-old resident in the Doric capital but originally from the Macerata area ended up on trial. Yesterday the trial opened before judge Antonella Passalacqua with the hearing of the first witnesses.
The dog, named Roco, died on April 7, 2022. At the end of March he had been taken to the office of a veterinary clinic by an acquaintance of the 40-year-old, who – at least according to what emerged – could no longer take care of the dog. The report was then sent from the clinic to the zoophile guards. «The dog – said the guard in the courtroom – was malnourished, you could see his side, and he had difficulty walking. His nails were very long.” After hospitalization in the veterinary clinic, he was taken to a kennel managed by an association of volunteers, but too many untreated pathologies had now compromised Roco’s vital functions, leading to his death.
The witness
The veterinarians who had taken care of the mixed breed also testified in the courtroom. «The situation was dramatic – said a doctor – the dog had various pathologies, including anemia and renal failure. It was a clinical picture that lasted over time. He had been abandoned without water or food, it was impossible to establish the timing.” Roco also suffered from cystitis and prostatitis. According to what was contested by the prosecutor’s office, the woman had kept the dog in an uninhabited apartment, in precarious sanitary conditions. The accused, defended by the lawyer Luca Froldi, denies all the accusations. Next hearing on November 21st.
