Policlinico Riuniti of Foggia: plan against attacks on doctors and nurses.
Descriptive text here

The Policlinico Riuniti of Foggia has developed a plan to combat attacks on healthcare personnel, which have occurred with worrying frequency in recent times.

The plan, developed by the strategic management of the healthcare company in collaboration with the medical association of Foggia, the hospital staff unions and the management of the Polyclinic, is based on several actions:

Immediate measures:

  • Increase in security guards: The number of security guards on duty has been increased from four to five per shift, with the aim of ensuring a greater presence of security personnel.
  • Enhancement of video surveillance: A new video surveillance system is being activated which will cover all areas of the hospital. The system is designed to protect citizens’ privacy by automatically obscuring the faces of the people filmed.
  • Extension of the waiting room: The emergency room waiting room has been expanded to reduce crowding and create a more comfortable environment for patients.

Medium-long term measures:

  • Reduction of improper access: The Polyclinic is working to optimize patient flows and reduce improper access to the emergency room. The objective is to direct patients to the most suitable structures, lightening the workload of the emergency room and reducing the risk of tension.
  • Psychological support: A psychological support service will be established for healthcare personnel who have suffered attacks or who are otherwise exposed to stressful situations. The service will be provided by psychologists expert in the management of trauma and work stress.
  • Staff training: Healthcare personnel will be trained to recognize signs of pre-aggression and to manage conflict situations effectively.
  • Greater collaboration with law enforcement: Collaboration with law enforcement will be strengthened to ensure a prompt response in the event of attacks.

The general director of the Policlinico Riuniti, Giuseppe Pasqualone, said: “The safety of our staff and patients is an absolute priority. With this plan, we intend to create a safer and more peaceful working environment for everyone. I thank the medical association, the unions and the management of the Polyclinic for their collaboration in the drafting of this plan.”

The implementation of the plan is an important step to combat the phenomenon of attacks on healthcare workers, which unfortunately is on the increase throughout the country. A common commitment is needed from all institutions to protect professionals working in the healthcare sector and guarantee citizens’ right to receive adequate care in a safe environment.
