“17 million 200 thousand euros: this is how much the debt situation of the Municipality of Potenza Picena amounted to in 2009. This was the moment of maximum indebtedness of the institution since 2000. And the PD-branded Paolucci council was in charge” so the Outgoing budget councilor of the Municipality of Potenza Picena, Marco Mazzoni, begins to illustrate the trend of the municipal budget following the accusations, made by the Pro Morgoni electoral committee, relating to the increase in debt with centre-right governments.
“From 2014 to 2020 – continues Mazzoni – the centre-right administrations worked, year after year, for a progressive reduction of indebtedness. The numbers speak clearly. As of 31/12/2013, the last year under centre-left management, the debt amounted to 14 million 600 thousand euros and was then reduced to 11 million 950 thousand euros as of 31/12/2020, after seven years of centre-right government: 2 million and 650 thousand euros less”. Then the pandemic and the need to invest in works of fundamental importance for the city. “After 7 years of debt reduction – explains Mazzoni – in 2023 there will be an increase linked to the numerous municipal partnerships necessary for the construction of important works. Among these, over 2 million went to the new primary school in Porto Potenza Picena. 770 thousand euros were allocated to the Coloramondo school. 1 million and 450 thousand euros for the works planned in the context of urban regeneration. Lastly, 700 thousand euros for the construction of the changing rooms of the San Girio Sports Center. Interventions essential to the community, so much so as to justify the increase recorded. As of 31/12/2023, the latest data reported to this administration, the debt was 15,300,000 euros: a figure almost 2,000,000 lower than on 31/12/2009″.
