ROME – Exploitation of labor and illicit intermediation. These are the accusations against ten people who ended up under arrest following an operation by the Carabinieri in Piombino, in the province of Livorno.
“Applause to the Carabinieri of the Livorno command for the operation which led to the precautionary custody in prison of 10 people suspected, according to what emerges from the investigations, of the crime of illicit intermediation and exploitation of the work of 67 non-EU citizens employed in agriculture in the provinces of Livorno and Grosseto. In Italy there is no space for those who want to operate outside the rules.”
This is what the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Francesco, declared Lollobrigidacommenting on the operation of the Carabinieri of the Livorno command against the gangmaster.
“The Meloni Government’s commitment to combating the exploitation of workers in the agricultural sector is a priority, as demonstrated by the first measure I signed immediately after taking office at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry. I thank the judiciary and the police forces for their incessant work which qualifies our battle to eradicate exploitation and gangmastering from our nation”, concluded the minister.
The investigators found the lack of a regular employment contract, the violation of working hours, with the victims forced to continue for up to 10 hours, and of the economic treatment. In one case the payment of 0.97 euros per hour was established.
