Thousands discover Umbrian craft beer: the first edition of UBeer hits the mark

Bringing even the less experienced to artisanal beer production, a growing sector where Umbria is now one of the most significant regions in the field as demonstrated by the recognition achieved by some breweries. But also an innovative, dynamic format that also focuses on entertainment, all in a wonderful setting like that of Barton Park in Perugia. The ingredients for success were all there from the start, but the result obtained from the first edition of UBeer went beyond all expectations.

Thanks to the favorable weather, the event was visited in three days (26-28 April) by thousands of enthusiasts but also tourists, stakeholders and above all many young people attracted by the entertainment proposals in that green heart of the city which with its 3 hectares of terrain proved to be the perfect location. The Open Mind Association, made up of seven enterprising Umbrian boys, thus archives another great success after UWine in the historic center of Perugia (event dedicated to the region’s wine production), confirming itself as active in the creation of innovative formats aimed at valorising regional food and wine excellences .

In this case, therefore, the spotlight was turned on Umbrian craft beer for an experience that achieved the objective of raising awareness of a rapidly developing sector. Thirteen breweries from all over the region have conveyed their enthusiasm and love for beer to the public with their numerous labels: Birra Flea, Gramigna, Mastri Birrai Umbri, Altotevere, Birra Perugia, Birra Bro, Fratelli Perugini, Centolitri, Birra dell’Eremo, San Biagio, Osiride, Bastian Birraio, Birra Alfina. LadyBug Kombucha was also present and presented its 100% Umbrian fermented non-alcoholic drink to the public.

“We are proud of the result obtained – say the organizers – and we thank those who supported us, institutions and partners, believing in a project born from a dream of ours: creating a link with the territory to grow the products that characterize it. The aim of UBeer, through beer, was to promote regional artisan excellence by creating cohesion and entertaining people. Seeing this ideal become something concrete is a source of pride for us.”

In addition to the best Umbrian craft breweries, what made everything even richer was the gastronomic offer thanks to 8 Umbrian food trucks, but also DJ sets and live music, which entertained those present with the “Sound park” format. Throughout the festival, thematic conferences were also held with industry experts, including: Katya Carbone, first CREA researcher, Ombretta Marconi director of the CERB of Perugia, Riccardo Antonelli AIS Birra Commission, Matteo Bartolini CIA Umbria, Sandra Placidi director of Umbria Tourism. The regional councilor for agricultural and food policies Roberto Morroni was also present during the first day of the event. Many topics are explored in depth, including the supply chain, Umbria as a model in the internal production of malt and hops, the importance of research and raw materials and sustainability.
