“The obvious conflicts of interest of the Celentano administration”

The Latina Ambiente “case” continues to hold sway. Following the controversy that erupted over the weekend after the note from the mayor Matilde Celentano, the Lbc movement intervened again in the last few hours regarding the administration’s position on the matter. “Behind the words of the mayor on the issue relating to the Municipality’s constitution as a civil party in the criminal trial for the bankruptcy of Latina Ambiente, a clear admission: the existence of a clear conflict of interest between the body it represents and the people implicated in that investigation, who are part of his staff”: this is how the secretary Elettra Ortu La Barbera commented.

“It is equally evident – continues the LBC secretary – that, beyond the formality of entrusting the decision to legal advice, the choice has been made and responds to the clear political will to take a step back from a civil party constitution of the entity for which there already exists a resolution, signed by Commissioner Valente, entrusting the task to the municipal attorney’s office. The embarrassment over the matter is very clear and is very different from the positions expressed by the previous Coletta administration, recalled by the mayor herself in a note from recent days. Since the municipal employees were implicated in the proceedings, in the past the Coletta administration had simply postponed the choice of bringing a civil action to the preliminary hearing. Today, however, there is a much more obvious conflict of interest, which concerns the mayor’s trusted staff.”

There is another story in which a further conflict of interest emerges. “This is the case – explains the movement – of the appointment of the president of Abc Palmerini. In an act, presented by Palmerini himself in the selection of the members of the Board of Directors of the special company and published on the ABC online bulletin board, reference is made to his professional consultancy with Rida Ambiente”. “The figure of Palmerini, appointed president of the board of directors of the special company Abc, cannot fail to raise doubts about possible conflicts of interest – continues Ortu La Barbera – also because he is the bankruptcy trustee of Latina Ambiente. Furthermore, his consultancy with Rida cannot exclude assessments of incompatibility just because the contract for the contributions to the Aprilia company are signed by the Municipality of Latina. In fact, if Rida Ambiente’s business is based on unsorted waste, the mission of the Latina Abc company is practically the opposite and aims to reduce the fraction of dry waste through the implementation of sorting. A particularly delicate issue therefore. These obvious conflicts of interest still remain open, but the mayor glosses over it as if they had no implications on the transparency that citizens owe.”
