Pistoia, the “Dialogues” return from 24 to 26 May

Of Marcello Paris

PISTOIA – This fifteenth edition of the contemporary anthropology festival will be another success due to the depth of the guests and the program in general: 55 events, 28 speakers, 400 volunteers. An event that now represents a classic of Pistoia’s cultural events.

The presentation of the Dialogues

The title chosen has a question mark “Are we what we eat? Nourish the body and mind.” They will talk about our relationship with food, sustainability, prevention, how food has traveled and how it will change in the future.

The presentation of the three-day high intensity event was made at the headquarters of the Cassa di Risparmio di Pistoia e Pescia Foundation which, together with the Municipality, Intesa San Paolo, Unicoop Firenze and Publiacqua, supports the initiative while the Tuscany Region, the Province and the Ministry of Culture give their patronage.

The anthropologist Marco Aime, the president of the Caript Foundation Lorenzo Zogheri, the mayor Alessandro Tomasi and the director of the Dialogues Giulia Cogoli attended to physically present the festival.

To put it in Aime’s words, everything that concerns nature enters into food, food as a metaphor for culture.

We start on May 24th at 6.30 pm in Piazza del Duomo with the opening talk by Michela Marzano who will entertain on “What are young people hungry for today”? They will be there in the evening at 9pm at Manzoni Paolo Fresu And Omar Sosa in concert.

The same day at Pacini in Pescia at 9pm Peppe Servillo And Natalino L. Mangalavite they will entertain with a musical reading “A fortune teller told me” dedicated to Tiziano Terzani. This reading will be repeated on Saturday 25 May at 9.15pm at the Manzoni in Pistoia.

In the extensive review we find, to name a few, reports on food education and waste, Grasshoppers for breakfast; for zero waste food education; Space farming; what food are you? Religions, diets and food tribes; Because we learned from being (also) vegetarians; When food tells of psychic pain.

In short, there are many curiosities to be satisfied to, as the organizers wrote, “learn to eat and cook, produce food as social and cultural experiences, the result of exchanges that are the basis of our common life”.

In addition to Piazza del Duomo, shows and meetings take place at Manzoni, Bolognini and Palazzo dei Vescovi.

The international prize will be awarded to Corrado Augias who with Marco Aime will discuss “Dialogues and words for today’s Italy”.
