L’AQUILA – The nursery school library “La Scatola delle Esperienze” in Bazzano, L’Aquila, experienced a new birth today, after a period of interruption in lending due to Covid-19.

Born in the year 2000, ten years after the death of one of the two creators and promoters, it returns to carry out its function as a supporter of reading among the youngest children of the Paganica comprehensive institute.

Freely usable by children, “regulated” like a real library, the BiblioAllegra establishes the criteria through which young readers can benefit from the loan on a weekly basis, accompanied by their teachers.

The boys and girls “sign” on the Loan Register, thus committing themselves to respect and return the books, in the conditions in which they received them, to return them within the agreed time, remembering that it is a common good and that other boys and girls have them they will borrow after him/her.

The texts in the Library are scrupulously selected by the teachers, according to precise reference criteria, taking into account the age of the boys and girls, their tastes and their “literary” preferences.

“In learning to read and the motivation to read – he explains in a note Sabrina De Clemente, school teacher, co-founder and among the promoters of this initiative – a fundamental role is played first and foremost by a family environment full of stimuli, in which boys and girls have the opportunity to come into contact with books, listen to stories read by the familiar voice of parents or grandparents, being able to touch and browse texts. Our school calls the family to ‘play’ this card through a small but important commitment to finding time and space to read, together with their children, the books they borrow from our BiblioAllegra. Nursery school represents a particular moment and has a very important role in developing awareness of the uniqueness of the reading experience. It can encourage them to look at what is not evident, stimulate them to give answers, support their curiosity, facilitate discovery and encourage the acquisition of pleasure in written language and reading. The effect of all this is that boys and girls soon learn to give meaning to the many messages, to make their first hypotheses and to build personal theories on reading and writing”.

Such a significant number of volumes, destined to grow, is also thanks to a more than twenty-year agreement with the “Colacchi” bookshop in L’Aquila, which allows the organization, during the Christmas holidays, of an opening day of the “Libreria a school”, as these offer an excellent opportunity to donate and have specific books about the holidays, but also of other kinds, donated.

The purpose of the bookshop, set up occasionally within the school, is not only limited to increasing the purchase of texts for the library, but also satisfies the need to come into contact with texts from an early age and to be able to manipulate them , browse, look and try to “read”.

Furthermore, the possibility of being able to choose freely or in the company of parents the texts to purchase certainly fuels the taste and pleasure towards this activity. Children thus have the opportunity to “have in their hands” various genres of books and to be able to choose them freely. At the same time, parents also appreciate the importance and pleasure of creating a moment of unrepeatable intimacy during this moment dedicated to reading with their children.

“The agreement with the Colacchi bookshop – conclude the teachers – provides that, on the total proceeds from the sale of books, a small percentage discount is applied, which is completely reinvested for the purchase of increasingly varied and ‘tasty’ texts for our Library”.

The initiative was attended by the head teacher, Damiano Lupo, who intended to underline the value of this initiative, born within the Bazzano Kindergarten, a true cultural jewel of the Paganica school. Great appreciation and emotion was shown by the daughter of Stefania Allegri, Melanie Borderonhimself a trainee teacher.

The music of Armando Rotilio, Fabrizio De Melis and the recited readings of Romina Masi enlivened the event together with the children who danced and sang with their teachers and families. There was no shortage of moments of magic with Scatamagic.
