Lots of music for Santa Caterina in the Duomo in Siena

Music, art and devotion. On the occasion of the celebrations for Santa Caterina, patron saint of Italy and Europe, the appointment with the musical event of the ‘Rinaldo Franci’ Conservatory dedicated to the great Sienese saint is renewed again this year. The concert, created thanks to the collaboration with the Opera della Metropolitana, will take place on Friday 3 May at 9.15 pm, in the Siena Cathedral.

The protagonists of the evening will be the Franci Orchestra and choir, the SICH children’s choir, the choir of the Piccolomini musical high school, the choir of the Polifonici senesi and the polyphonic and children’s choir Nisea of Teramo, which will be directed by Maestro Claudia Morelli. The evening’s program includes the music of Carlo Lapini, Charles Gounod and Gabriel Fauré, with the performance of the famous Requiem op.48 (soloists: soprano Rebecca Sois and baritone Alessio Fortune Ejiugwo). The event will have free entry until all available seats are filled.

“The traditional musical event on the occasion of the homage to Santa Caterina – states Anna Carli, president of Franci – is not only the moment in which the fruits of hard work by many young aspiring musicians are reaped. The ‘Catherine’ event is a concrete example of how synergy and collaboration between different realities can lead to important results such as the event that will take place in the Cathedral and for this we thank Archbishop S. EM. Cardinal Augusto Paolo Lojudice and the Metropolitan Opera. A simple message, which in some way refers to the constant call of Saint Catherine herself to harmony and unity for the good of the community”.

“With the Catherine Celebrations – declares Matteo Fossi, director of the Conservatory – the appointment with the great music that the girls and boys of our Conservatory will perform in the splendid setting of the Cathedral also returns. It is a wonderful opportunity for many artists, who, thanks to the work done together with their Masters, can perform in one of the most heartfelt anniversaries of the Sienese community, giving and giving themselves many emotions”.

“The feast of Saint Catherine – states Cardinal Augusto Paolo Lojudice, archbishop of Siena-Colle di Val D’Elsa-Montalcino – reminds us every year of the importance of working all together for our community so that it is increasingly cohesive and supportive, but also to enhance the great treasures of art, culture and music that make our city, Siena, great. The event in honor of our saint is an example of how we can combine music, spirituality and also the talent of young musicians who are our pride and to whom I wish all the best”.

“The Metropolitan Opera – adds the Rector prof. Giovanni Minnucci – is pleased to host the young artists of the Franci Conservatory on the occasion of the ‘Caterini celebrations’, in a particularly significant place such as the Sienese monumental complex: a Cathedral which attests not only to the mastery of the great artists who, over the centuries , have embellished it with their works, but above all the spirituality that unquestionably characterizes it, and which is willingly ready to welcome those who, with their art, intend to celebrate the Sienese saint, patron of Italy and co-patron of Europe”.
