The envelopes will be opened on June 2nd, after which, barring any problems, work will begin. Everything is (almost) ready for the construction of the new hospital in Castellammare di Stabia which will be built on a portion of land where the ancient Stabia baths once stood. This morning, in the De Sanctis room of the Campania Region, the project costing 120 million euros was taken stock of during the press conference attended by the president Vincenzo De Luca. The Region, De Luca recalled, faced a delicate procedure to be able to recover the now abandoned places and to obtain building permits: “Today we set a milestone, we have found the resources, the institutional collaborations necessary to move forward, we are already started with the competition to choose the company. It is difficult to do more than this,” said De Luca. The President of the Region recalled that “there were a series of ongoing disputes”, but thanks to the collaboration between institutions the critical issues that accompanied “the complex operation of transferring ownership” were overcome.

The hospital will have 310 beds and different configurations: there will be, among others, cardiology, Utic, dermatology departments with beds where there is a need for hospitalization, nephrology, emergency medicine, general surgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology. A psychiatry service is provided, followed by the departments of pneumology, obstetrics, gynaecology, anesthesia and intensive care, and neonatal intensive care. “We will give the best possible response to the request for health from that community, from that territory”, observed general director of the ASL Napoli 3 Sud Giuseppe Russo. As for the location, De Luca underlined that for the new hospital “we chose a place that is in some way homologous to that of Monaldi, a somewhat hilly area”. “It will be one of the most beautiful hospitals in Campania – added De Luca -. The location is magical, overlooking the gulf. We hope to have a beautiful project of great contemporary architecture.” In the process of building the hospital, the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the metropolitan area of Naples has played and will play an important role, with which the Region has signed an agreement which was referred to in the press conference by the superintendent Mariano Nuzzo: “With this collaboration agreement, support from the Superintendency for the activities that will be carried out is established”.

“The agreement – explained Nuzzo – provides for the possibility that the Superintendence can act as a support to Rup, thus having a greater responsibility: since it is a work so important for the territory, there must be no obstacles and surprises in the recovery of an architectural site so important.” “The agreement also provides for the possibility of appointing a scientific committee, which can guide the designers in their choices,” added Nuzzo. The superintendent recalled that with this new work we will reuse a site that was in inappropriate conditions. The extraordinary commissioner intervened on this point Raffaele Cannizzaro who leads the Municipality of Castellammare after the dissolution: “Thanks to the proposal received from the president of the regional council of Campania it was possible to recover an extraordinarily beautiful area that was destined to be lost.” Cannizzaro then made an appeal to politicians: “If there is one thing that Castellammare needs, as do many municipalities in the Vesuvian area, it is space. In an urban area so dense as to be oppressive, hypotheses are already being made about the fate of the hospital that will be replaced by this extraordinary work. May space be created so that people can experience places in a more dignified way.”
