The recent adhesion of the lawyer Giuseppe Strangio, former provincial secretary of the Democratic Party, university professor and man involved in the city’s service clubs, to ask for membership in Forza Italia, officially announced a few days earlier by Strangio himself and by the parliamentarian Francesco Cannizzaro, regional coordinator of Calabria of the party founded by Silvio Berlusconi. “No ‘purchase campaign’, we welcome the moderates” Cannizzaro tells AGI.

“The message launched by the leader Antonio Tajani on the occasion of the Forza Italia National Council last week – he continues – was very clear: gather the discontent of the moderate area which is no longer seen in the current Schlein-branded Left and draw new from it lifeblood for our project. This is the activity we are carrying out in the territories, especially in the South where “sympathies” for Forza Italia have taken root for some time. This does not mean – reiterates Cannizzaro – that we are carrying out a “purchasing campaign”. This is an expression that hardly suits the tenor of our political action and at the level of our members. It is – I would say better – a mutual attraction. The reason is easily explained: Forza Italia is the only container that manages to truly be at the center and therefore manages to also attract left-wing moderates and other political souls who do not see themselves in extremism”.

“The truth is that there is a lack of political viability, even though I had distanced myself from the Democratic Party for some time.” “Forza Italia today represents – underlines Strangio – the only political entity in which secular, liberal ideas that inspire my commitment can find full democratic viability. Even President Tajani, on the occasion of the recent provincial congress of Forza Italia in Reggio Calabria, opened the party to those secular, liberal and socialist subjects who do not find adequate representation within the current political panorama, in which the forces of the center-left – highlights Giuseppe Strangio – they appear crushed on radical and conservative positions”.

Strangio – according to some rumors – would only be the first link in a chain of members and supporters that is moving away from the Democratic Party towards Forza Italia. The arrival in the party founded by Silvio Berlusconi of the former councilors of the municipal council led by Giuseppe Falcomata’, Rocco Albanese (Public Works) and Antonino Zimbalatti (Local Police) is imminent in Reggio Calabria.
