TERAMO – From today, a new thoracic endoscopy service is active within the Teramo hospital, in the first lot on the second floor. The service was created by integrating those already existing in the Thoracic Surgery Units directed by Duilio Divided and Respiratory Diseases directed by Stefano Sailors, with the aim of optimizing the offer and quality of services. It aims to respond to the growing needs of patients with lung and thoracic pathologies by providing a complete and multi-specialist service. An endoscopic plate has been created with a complete set of latest generation endoscopes (also the result of a donation from the D’Adiutorio family of Montorio), negative pressure rooms for services at risk of infection. “The growth of opportunities in the endoscopic field, associated with the new perspectives in the field of Clinical Pathology, Radiology, Radiotherapy and Pathological Anatomy, already planned in our Local Health Authority, will allow us to resolve an ever-increasing number of therapeutic diagnostic problems in our region without resorting to unfortunately still frequent journeys of hope” explains general manager Maurizio Of Josiah “the new service, equipped with cutting-edge technologies that will allow daily operations, with a wide range of thoracic endoscopic services, will also host a clinic for lung diseases, important for the prevention and treatment of lung cancer”.
“The need for such a service arises from the awareness of equipping the Mazzini with an endoscopic room compliant with current safety and technology standards, such as to guarantee and implement the excellence of the service already provided by the Thoracic Surgery Unit. The general management has grasped the imperative need to equip itself with a structure capable of harmonizing both the diagnostic and therapeutic-endoscopic aspects inherent to lung pathology. The advantages for the patient consist in the speed of access and the expansion of the procedures that can be performed, reducing times and waiting lists”, underlines Duilio Divided. “The service was created from an interdisciplinary medical and surgical perspective, in my opinion essential for the holistic management of pulmonary and thoracic pathologies”, observes Stefano Marinari, “bronchial endoscopy is increasingly necessary for the complete management of many pulmonary pathologies not only neoplastic. In recent years we have had an important request for endoscopic diagnostics in the field of widespread infiltrative diseases, for which the Respiratory Diseases Unit of the Teramo Local Health Authority represents a reference, and of complicated infectious pulmonary pathologies which require ever greater diagnostic accuracy.
