SALOME’, GENIUS AND PASSION – Screening on May 10th in Prato

The documentary film SALOME’, GENIUS AND PASSIONwritten and directed by Gabriele Cecconi and Francesco Tasselli, was produced by Alfafilm with the contribution of the Municipality of Prato and the Cassa di Risparmio di Prato Foundation, in collaboration with the University of Florence and the Diocesan Museum.

The councilor Simone Mangani, the president Diana Toccafondi, the two directors and all the actors will be present, in particular Consuelo Ciatti, Gianluigi Tosto, Teresa Marini, Claudio Cerretelli, Andrea Anastasio. The screening is open to all and entry to the Museum is free.

The screening of the short will be followed by a visit to the Museum room which houses the painting “Madonna della Cintola” by Filippo Lippi, a work that is part of the story we are telling, under the guidance of the director of the Museum Dr. Rita Iacopino and the expert Dr. . Claudio Cerretelli.

The documentary part illustrates the artistic characteristics of the frescoes by Fra Filippo Lippi created in 1452 in the main chapel of the Prato Cathedral. In particular, Herod’s banquet is explored in detail with the figure of the dancing Salome at the center of the scene, considered the artist’s masterpiece.

The fiction part tells the particular intertwining between the creation of this brilliant fresco and the love story (very scandalous for the time) of brother Filippo Lippi, more painter than friar, with the beautiful and young Lucrezia Buti, a nun without a vocation , who lent her face to Salome herself and to the most beautiful Madonnas painted by the artist, becoming a model of grace and elegance for other painters in the second half of the Florentine fifteenth century, including Botticelli.
