What is certain is that for the centre-right parties, there is only the reconfirmation of Guarente as Mayor of the city. The pressure within the coalition for a different choice, made explicit by Galella’s exit, melted like snow in the sun with Pepe recalling how the similar precedent of distancing itself from Bardi by the League itself had fallen into nothing . There is a precedent and therefore Guarente is not being touched, as he will officially say today, in an attempt to close the hole before it can open completely. If the three parties will necessarily go for the outgoing mayor, a new game is opening up in the center with the attempt in the making to bring together perhaps moderates, expressions of civility of various origins and old glories of city politics. A problematic birth that risks aborting if help doesn’t arrive from people who matter a lot in the center, starting with Basilicata Casa Comune, to which the alliance of necessity made with the center-left hasn’t brought any benefit and which now finds itself at the crossroads if relaunch with an autonomous political offer or pay another price for the survival of the Democratic Party, dying out in a botched and losing coalition. Today’s meeting of the centre-left will serve to understand whether we want to repeat the asphyxiated regional experience or whether we want to experiment with other paths that could revive the people of Potenza, dissatisfied and disappointed by the five-year period under Guarente’s leadership. If Chiorazzo wants to collect the credit he has gained in the Democratic Party, he will have to make an effort to trace a new path, bringing in a candidate of great prestige and certain extraneousness to the party apparatus who can truly divide the city between deference to the logic of power and choosing the best man. A result that would not only avoid the victory of the right in the first round and would bring the challenge to the best Mayor in the run-off, but could also be an opportunity to avoid the consolidation of the alliance between Pittella Polese and Bardi, calling on the first two to demonstrate how that regional alliance was an alliance of necessity dictated by a stupid and insipid electoral law and that the role of the two forces remains in line with the equidistance positions assumed at a national level by Renzi and Calenda. An entirely theoretical discussion which, however, must deal with the reality of a Bardi who has the upper hand and who can bring to the table issues such as councilor delegations and the distribution of regional power, all topics which, unfortunately, allow secondly, political ideals in the name of more prosaic personal convenience.
