in Bari a sit-in against the measure

As announced some time ago, the Calderoli bill on differentiated autonomy will be discussed today in the Chamber, after receiving the approval from the Constitutional Affairs Commission.
And the protest also reaches the Apulian capital, where the Committee for the Unity of the Republic of Bari organized a sit-in under the Government Palace in Piazza della Libertà at 5.30pm.

«The Meloni Government continues with the wicked plan to dismantle the Republic and attack people’s rights. The Calderoli bill will begin the parliamentary process in the Chamber with general inattention – they write in a note from the committee – The differentiated autonomy will lead to further impoverishment of the South, of the territories and of the most disadvantaged social groups, already affected by cuts in schools and healthcare, from job and life precariousness, from the impoverishment of the welfare state. Today is a sad day for those who believe in the constitutional values of unity and indivisibility of the Republic.” General Vannacci’s words on the possibility of creating differentiated classes for students with disabilities also strengthen the controversy over differentiated autonomy in recent days.

The candidate for mayor of Bari Michele Laforgia will also participate in today’s demonstration in Piazza della Libertà and has made no secret of his opposition to the Calderoli bill. «The reform on differentiated autonomy – underlines Laforgia – will bring further impoverishment to the territories of the South and to the weakest groups, already tormented by the difficult conditions that have characterized the policies of the Meloni Government in recent years. This is why it is necessary to be there tomorrow, all together, in the square, to make our voice and our dissent heard against a plan that would set Italy back 50 years.”

Democratic Party candidate Vito Leccese is also critical of the measure. «Differentiated autonomy can further fragment the country, a country that is already moving at different economic speeds and which must fill territorial gaps. The wicked and unconstitutional intention to fragment and dangerously disjoint the Republic abandons the South to its own fate and risks making those who are already poor become poorer”. Antonio Decaro’s former chief of staff also expressed his opinion on Vannacci’s words. «Vannacci’s words on class diversification? They seem like delusional phrases said by an irresponsible person to me. Separate classes reproduce ghettos while disabled people need inclusion because they have many abilities that we don’t have. In many cases they give us lessons in life, humanity and beauty. Just the opposite of the contents of Roberto Vannacci’s message.”

The center-right mayoral candidate Fabio Romito is instead a stance on the issue of differentiated autonomy. «Those who contest the Calderoli bill demonstrate that they are not informed because that law will not penalize the South in any way. And we must not forget that autonomy was desired, requested and supported also by representatives of the Democratic Party such as Stefano Bonaccini, head of the Decaro and Emiliano current. And the centre-left parties also approved, in his time, the ramshackle reform of Title V of the Constitution. Anyone who uses certain arguments against the center-right would do well to study and speak truthfully.”
