Nurse groped by a Tunisian prisoner. Shock in the Teramo prison for a second, very serious, episode to the detriment of healthcare personnel working in the prison. A 26-year-old nurse, on duty on Friday in Castrogno, was groped by a 27-year-old Tunisian prisoner who said he was ill and needed immediate treatment, but once in the infirmary he pounced on the girl and groped her breasts.

They were very excited moments, the woman’s screams echoed in the structure. The penitentiary police officers immediately blocked the Tunisian who was then reported for sexual harassment. The episode was made known by the Sinappe union which, in recent days, had made it known that it was the doctor who had been molested by another young Tunisian prisoner, who was on duty last Thursday when, again with the excuse of be visited, the inmate had sexually assaulted her. In this case the Tunisian was reported for sexual assault. Two days later, another serious harassment against the nurse.

THE REACTIONS

The prison unions intervened in both episodes. «Despicable facts that should not happen especially in prison – says the provincial secretary of Sappe Giuseppe Pallini – Unfortunately nothing can be done against thugs other than subjecting them to a harsh prison such as special surveillance in article 14 bis of the law penitentiary, which we hope the administration will apply to send a strong signal.” A hard line also on the part of Sinappe: «A problem that we have been paying attention to for some time – writes the provincial secretariat – with the hope of a strong position taken by the top management of the administration. We await a directive that informs prisoners of the greatest attention paid to their conduct during medical examinations, training on respect for women and professions, and which provides for the keeping in service of all necessary personnel. We believe that the obsessive leave demanded and imposed by the Administration on the already scarce staff has facilitated the conviction among the prisoners of low vigilance and therefore the possibility of indulging in unacceptable gestures which the State, especially in the workplace, is obliged to do to prevent and condemn. We express our strongest closeness and support to the nurse who was the victim of the vile gesture, hoping that similar facts will not find any type of minimization and that the Administration will take action to remove the prisoner involved.” Urgent interventions on the institutions to guarantee greater protection for health professionals were also requested by the secretary Ugl Salute of Teramo Stefano Matteucci: «Unfortunately also due to the insufficient number of penitentiary police officers in the Teramo prison, the medical staff is constantly at risk» .
