How is Umtiti’s season progressing with Lille?

On the occasion of the Giallorossi’s last match, played against Monza at Via del Mare, there was a special guest supporting his former teammates: Samuel Hurray. Acclaimed by all the spectators present, and visibly moved, the strong French central defender took to the field to reciprocate the affection received, spending a few words of thanks:

Hi everyone, I’m really happy to be here with you. This stadium is wonderful for me. Last year we had a season that I will never forget. Thanks to everyone, club and fans. I am one of you forever, I feel like Lecce forever. I am home.

Last year, as you will well remember, he wore the Lecce shirt, leading the team, as an absolute protagonist, to a historic salvation and leaving an indelible memory in the minds of each of his old fans who now consider him as their favorite .

The season with Lille

This year he returned to France with the colors of Lille. At this moment of the season the team is in fourth place in Ligue 1 (in full battle for a place in the Champions League) and was recently eliminated in the Conference quarter-finals, losing the match against Aston Villa on penalties.

Samuel, so far, has made 13 appearances for a total of 709 minutes played. After the extraordinary year in Salento, Hurray seems to have returned to the levels of the past, managing to recover an almost perfect physical condition after a long, yet complicated, period characterized by various injuries that had removed him from the radar of international football (in which he had always been used to competing, winning a World Cup with his France in 2018 and two Spanish championships with Barcelona).

Unfortunately, however, once again a new injury seems to have changed his plans. The year in France, in fact, seems not to have gone as expected: at the beginning of the championship, following a clash with an opponent, he suffered a concussion which kept him away from the playing fields for a few days while, last February, he underwent knee surgery from which he has not yet recovered.

The Frenchman’s last appearance dates back to January 21st in the French Cup and we don’t know for sure if he will be able to recover by the end of the championship. What matters, of course, is that you return as soon as possible; we all know his immense value and we can’t wait to see him tread the green rectangle again to return to being a leader and protagonist of his own destiny, and of his new colours, once again.
