The fire at the Don Minzoni school costs the Municipality a whopping 100 thousand euros: this is the overall value of the extremely urgent interventions approved in recent days by the council to give the green light to the restoration and safety of the school which burned down at the beginning of the month .

In fact, last April 2nd – for reasons still being ascertained by the firefighters – the area of the institute which housed the music room, which was seriously damaged, caught fire. Luckily at that moment the school was closed due to the Easter holidays and the only activities taking place were sports in the gym which was not hit by the flames which were immediately put out by the Ravenna firefighters. However, the entire school complex remained closed for a few days also due to the smoke that had permeated the premises.

The amount necessary to return to normality is the result of the calculations following the inspection carried out by the Municipality’s technician: in summary, his report highlights that «the fire caused damage to the false ceiling of the portico, to the shutters and to the fixtures of the music room and adjacent areas; the smoke and heat that developed also caused damage to the instruments, materials and devices in the music room and to the electrical system. Smoke invaded part of the school.” Based on these assessments, the technician found “that the current situation did not allow for any delay, in order to protect public and private safety and avoid further damage”. In short, we need to act as a matter of urgency. The interventions necessary for the restoration, entrusted to the Cear company which immediately made itself available, are the following: securing and isolating the electrical system, checking the fire detection system and restoring the smoke evacuator opening system; removal of the shutters damaged by the heat of the fire, safety of the fixtures, removal of the broken fixtures and glass and replacement of the emergency exit broken by the firefighters during their intervention; removal of the soot-soaked and deteriorated false ceilings in the music room in the secretariat and in the atrium corridor; compartmentalization of the rooms through the supply and installation of a plasterboard wall to separate the area affected by the fire from the rest of the building; cleaning and suitable whitewashing with suitable anti-smoking products in the corridor area above the secretariat of the main atrium most affected by smoking”.
