A sprout of peace and rebirth

A gesture that represents a hope of rebirth. In the parish of Sant’Andrea Apostolo the boys of Catholic Action plant an olive tree. For the occasion Concetta Saccotelli, on behalf of the educators, wanted to give us this writing which we are happy to publish:

“As usual, every Saturday we meet the post-confirmation kids and, following a predefined theme, we try to help them grow, experiment and mature both humanly and in faith through activities, playful moments and reflection. To accompany us this year it is the story of giant dreams: every Saturday our meetings are guided by a key word that contains the message we want to convey. On Saturday 27th April the word to give to the children of the second and eighth grade was «Sprouts» and, after making a comparison between three plants (one beautiful and vigorous, the other dry and withered and a last fake one) we invited them to reflect on what good they are “sowing” in their lives and on the importance of take care of creation and those around us. We tried to teach them how important it is to pay attention to the sprouts that are so delicate and yet fundamental for the growth of new life and, therefore, of hope. In conclusion we decided to transform and make this experience concrete, planting an olive tree in the garden of our parish, generously granted to us by the municipal council, and with the help of some men from the parish, always ready and available, the post-confirmation boys and we educators planted the small olive tree, a symbol of peace, of hope, of rebirth. The kids were enthusiastic and that olive tree there will be a living and concrete testimony of how much we must never tire of sowing goodness, peace – so desired nowadays – care and attention”.
