five villages to visit in Tuscany (even if it rains)

May 1st has always been a day that many dedicate to trips out of town and excursions. A moment of the year that for many represents the opportunity to spend time in new places with family and friends, perhaps discovering one of the many villages in Tuscany. Although the weather forecast for 2024 does not seem particularly favorable, do not let yourself be discouraged.

Below are five villages in our region not to be missed even in bad weather.

Bagno Vignoni

Bagno Vignoni is a spa town in Tuscany with great charm. The main square of the town is almost entirely occupied by a natural hot water pool 49 meters long and of ancient origins. Around it there are stone houses and rooms. Although it is not possible to bathe in the pool in the central square, you can relax in the swimming pools of the hotels and spas in the surrounding area.

Pienza

Pienza, known in the Renaissance as the “ideal city”, is one of the many jewels of the Val d’Orcia, in the province of Siena. Here, for the most romantic, it will be possible to treat yourself to some unforgettable moments walking along the Via dell’Amore and the Via del Bacio. No fear even in case of bad weather: in this case you can dedicate yourself to visiting the enchanting Palazzo Piccolomini (not to be missed, in reality, even on a sunny day).

Certaldo

A small village in the province of Florence, Certaldo Alta can be reached not only by car or on foot, but also by funicular. Here, to spend a few hours of relaxation in the name of culture even in bad weather, it is possible to visit the house of Giovanni Boccaccio, who spent much of his life in Certaldo, and the enchanting Palazzo Pretorio, a symbolic building of ancient power of the place.

San Miniato

Known as the city of the white truffle, it is located between the provinces of Pisa and Florence. Suitable destination for those who want to take a break from the frenzy of everyday life while enjoying good food and the beauty of the landscape.

Sorano

Together with Pitigliano and Sovana, Sorano, where the Spring Festival is taking place, is one of the three “tuff villages” in the province of Grosseto. A jewel of Etruscan origin, which became a particularly active center during the Middle Ages. Here, a visit to the enchanting Orsini Fortress is unmissable.
