A financier retired, 85 years old, fired his gun and injured one of the thieves who broke into his home in Bergamo. The episode occurred around 9.30pm in Longuelo, a suburban neighborhood of the city. The injured thief is a 26-year-old Albanian, stopped by the police near the house: he was grazed in the neck by a bullet and is not in serious condition.

Bergamo, retired financier shoots a thief
He was arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery after being treated and released from hospital. His accomplice, also a 26-year-old Albanian, was subsequently tracked down and arrested by the police. However, the position of the financier, who nevertheless had the gun in his possession, is being examined.
The dynamics
The two, wearing balaclavas, entered Longuelo’s two-storey terraced house through a French door at the back, forced open with a crowbar. They then surprised the elderly man in bed while he was watching TV and allegedly threatened him to hand over money and valuables. His wife, however, was upstairs. The former financier had the gun under his pillow: he then grabbed the weapon and shot. The thieves then fled, taking the man’s bag with them. His wife, who rushed to the scene, alerted 112.
