In the neighborhood of the Basilica of San Valentino, greenery has invaded almost everything. The small park has benches practically covered in weeds, the car park in front of the economics university, right next to the basilica, has very tall grass. Let’s not talk about the San Valentino garden, the large abandoned park a few dozen meters from the basilica and the headquarters of the Cantamaggio institution: it is completely invaded by weeds taller than me. I am sorry that after proposals for free artistic valorisation and maintenance by the Ipogeo San Valentino-Borgo Garibaldi association, of which I am president, in agreement with other associations and cooperatives in the area, it has been in a state of almost complete abandonment.

Only last summer was a free green maintenance intervention carried out by a company friendly to our association, only at our request did the firefighters intervene to cut unsafe branches that were standing right on the path from the car park and the building of the The elevator leads to the university and the basilica of our patron saint.

We have also officially presented a free redevelopment project, done by an architect from our volunteer organization, but to date no response. Artistic installations, benches, lights, gazebos, tables, etc. were planned. From the wall overlooking Via San Valentino descends, weeds touching the street below. We even presented a project in which a company undertakes to give many benches to the neighborhood and we even presented simulations of how and where they would be positioned, at the request of the municipal technicians.

I don’t know how we can leave everything abandoned and without maintenance in the neighborhood of the basilica of our patron saint, even refusing the free help of local associations, organizations and cooperatives. I hope that those responsible will undertake to allow those who want to commit themselves to valorise this area that otherwise will continue to remain abandoned to itself.
