Between thematic itineraries and special openings, the Piacenza Cathedral Museum celebrates May 1st in the name of Beauty. The Kronos Museum will observe public holiday hours from 3pm – 6pm (last entry at 5pm) with climbs to the dome of the Cathedral frescoed by Guercino at 3pm | 16 | 17. Reservations are recommended to guarantee entry to the climb (limited places).

CLIMB TO THE PORDENONE DOME

At the same time, the ascent service to the Pordenone Dome will also be active at the Basilica of Santa Maria di Campagna (ascents at 4pm and 5pm), where it will be possible to use the cumulative ticket for the two domes as part of the Mirabili initiative perspectives (www.mirabiliprospettive.it). Reservation recommended (limited places).

CATHEDRAL MUSEUM

To further expand the cultural offer, on Monday 29 April the Cathedral Museum will remain exceptionally open with the midweek opening hours and methods: from 3pm to 6pm (last entry at 5pm) and ascent to the dome with advance booking required.

Furthermore, on Wednesday 1st May it will be possible to take part in the thematic visit «The paratici and the “Talking Stones” of the cathedral»: at 2.30 pm on the occasion of Labor Day, walking inside the Cathedral, you will discover the professional figures of the Paratici, depicted on some of the large pillars of the building. These medieval bas-reliefs still tell us about the Piacenza that was, telling of the lives and workers who were protagonists in the construction of the Cathedral. With theirs, it will also be possible to listen to the stories of other figures who emerge from the pillars of the Cathedral and “investigate” another small curiosity linked to the Piacenza of the past on the façade of the church. Reservation recommended, meeting inside the Cathedral. A participation fee is required.

“Minecraft Cathedral”

Also on the afternoon of Wednesday 1st May, our little visitors will be able to transform themselves into medieval builders with the educational activity “Minecraft Cathedral: architects for a day” Crete, wood, leaves and pigments obtained from stones and earth: like real architects, for think and design a project and then build a miniature cathedral, using small blocks of clay and other materials available, bringing creativity and imagination into play. Duration 1 hour and a half. Ages 6-11 years. A small participation fee is required.
