Being a victim of theft and violations on social media is easier than you might imagine. This is certified, for example, by the “Censis-DeepCyber” report on cybersecurity in Italy. Published in April 2022, the study says that 81.7% of the Italian population fears being an easy prey to theft and violations of their personal data on the web, while almost 11% have discovered fake accounts with your name, surname and image.
Cybercriminals are increasingly using social networks to convey trap messages with the aim of stealing the sensitive data of potential victims, stealing their profile and then using their contacts to reach as many users as possible. The scams spread through the main social platforms are many and varied: if the most frequent offer easy earnings for a small initial investment, there are equally numerous ones that sponsor job offers by proposing a career as an influencer and proposing attractive collaborations with famous brands, ultimately always inducing the user to give up their personal data, if not even their banking data.
In many cases, the victim’s attention is captured with the “tag” technique, through which he is mentioned and encouraged to visit the scammer’s profile, often so plausible as to induce him to have a first active contact which makes him fall into the trap. .
