At the European Championships in Rimini the men’s Italy wins bronze Italpress news agency

RIMINI (ITALPRESS) – The Italian artistic gymnastics team wins third place at the 36th European Artistic Gymnastics Championships. Yumin Abbadini, Lorenzo Casali, Mario Macchiati, Matteo Levantesi and Marco Lodadio won the continental bronze with a total of 252.560, the highest ever achieved by ItalGAM in recent history. The outgoing champions of Antalya2023 managed to get on the podium in the Rimini event in front of over two thousand spectators (after fifth place in qualifying with 249,162), improving their score by more than three points and defending themselves from the return of Turkey (in the end fourth ). In a sort of penalty lottery, on the last rotation, on the pommel horse, the Azzurri led by the director Giuseppe Cocciaro and the technicians Alberto Busnari and Marco Fortuna definitively separated Adem Asil and his companions, stuck at 248,029. The difference was made by the final apparatus, notoriously the riskiest in the discipline, with the home team prevailing over the Turks 42,266 to 38,499.
The FGI concludes the men’s event with two bronzes in the general competitions – that of Abbadini on Wednesday 24th and the second of the team, this afternoon – and brings the count of its “all time” senior European palmares to 49 medals (16 gold, 12 silver and 21 bronzes). At team level, this is the third consecutive placing, after the silver in Munich in 2022 (with a total of 247,494) and the title in Antalya (249,526) last year. And on all three occasions there were Casali, Levantesi and Abbadini. For Yumin a double bronze, even if, by his own admission, “the group one is worth double”.
Ukraine climbs to the top step of the Rimini Fair. Illia Kovtun, Oleg Verniaiev, Igor Radivilov, Nazar Chepurnyi and Radomyr Stelmakh with 255.762 are just over three tenths behind an excellent Great Britain. Joe Fraser Harry Hepworth Jake Jarman Courtney Tulloch and James Hall put together 255,429 points overall, but only enough for second place.
Also counting the six youth medals – Brugnami’s two golds on floor exercise and rings, Italbaby’s silver and Tommy’s two on vault and today’s all around, with Manuel Betterera’s bronze on bars (a result that equals the ‘previous exploit recorded in Glasgow in 2018) – the event dedicated to men of big tools ends with eight top Italians in the aggregate, senior and category medal table.
