Giorgia Meloni’s safety has “never been put at risk” and the involvement of Italian secret service personnel is “excluded”. The undersecretary of the Prime Minister’s Office, Alfredo Mantovano, put an end to the mystery surrounding an attempt by two people to open the car of Andrea Giambruno, the prime minister’s former partner. “I promptly reported – as the delegated Authority for the security of the Republic – of the episode that occurred under the home of the Prime Minister on the night between 30 November and 1 December, while President Meloni was engaged in a mission abroad. in my last hearing at Copasir on 4 April, I have difficulty in reiterating what has already been clarified in the parliamentary office, namely that the investigations carried out for the intelligence part have allowed us to exclude involvement in the episode with certainty. belonging to the Services, and that President Meloni’s safety has never been put at risk”, explains the government representative in charge of the secret services in a note.
The episode to which Mantovano refers was reported by the newspaper Domani. In the article of Sunday 28 April we read that on that night between 30 November and 1 December 2023, or more than a month after Meloni had announced the end of his relationship with Andrea Giambruno, outside the villa just purchased by the prime minister, in South Rome area, there is Giambruno’s car. And a short distance away, as required by security protocol, there is a police car keeping watch. The officers on duty notice two people fiddling around Giambruno’s car. The policemen, again according to what was reconstructed by the newspaper, approached and asked for the personal details of the two men, who however showed a badge qualifying themselves as ‘colleagues’, and then disappeared. Subsequently, again according to Domani, a report reconstructing what happened was drawn up and immediately handed over to Digos. The police chief Pisani, the Interior Minister Piantedosi, Mantovano, the then head of Aisi Parente and his right-hand man Del Deo, and also the prime minister would also have been directly informed. At first, two AISI secret agents, part of Meloni’s escort, are identified as possible suspects. But after subsequent checks their involvement was excluded. More simply, these would be receivers already known to the police.
