Mugging in broad daylight in Montelupo. A 69-year-old woman paid the consequences

She was walking along the street of the former mental hospital towards Viale Umberto I when she was grabbed from behind and dragged to the ground. Alushi, a 69 year old Albanian who has been in Italy for 30 years, travels that road every morning but this time something didn’t go as usual.

A young man, in an attempt to steal her, violently yanked the strap of her bag, tearing it off. The woman tried to resist in a desperate attempt not to be robbed, but the boy threw her to the ground and kicked her.
That handbag contained all the woman’s personal effects: from the house keys to the cell phone. It also contained a wallet containing the 400 euros needed to pay the bills.

A situation that changes the day, the dynamics, and which perhaps leaves greater internal consequences than one might expect. Alushi at that moment tried to defend tooth and nail everything he had.

“She wasn’t able to see the attacker’s face clearly because he had his hat and the hood of his sweatshirt pulled up – said his daughter Suada Begoviq – and then he caught her off guard from behind so she didn’t even realise. You only said that this man was of robust build, about 1.80 m tall, with a medium-length beard and in his 40s.”

After the impact the woman, who today complains of back pain due to the kick and the fall, remained there alone on the pavement realizing everything that had just happened little by little. No one passed along that street and no one noticed that robbery in broad daylight. She remained sitting there for a few minutes and then after starting to digest everything, she slowly got up and reached the police headquarters to file a complaint. Still no trace of the bag and her personal effects.

“She has some widespread pain because she hit her back when she fell to the ground and from the kick she received – he further explained – but she is a tenacious woman and doesn’t complain. She didn’t want to hear any reason to go to the emergency room and she spent a peaceful night, she rested. Nonetheless, she is understandably in shock. She doesn’t speak much but if you ask her things she answers. You will definitely need a few days to metabolize what happened.”

The words of Mayor Masetti

The 69-year-old woman victim of a violent street robbery in Montelupo Fiorentino is fortunately well but is understandably shocked. The mayor of the city, Paolo Masetti, explained this. “A serious matter which the police are already investigating – said the mayor – our video surveillance system is available and I am confident that we can trace the person responsible”.
