MESSINA – After head coach Bonafede, the management of Akademia Sant’Anna have chosen to renew the agreement also with its technical staff. Flavio Ferrara will still be the second coach of the club, while Daniele Cesareo will continue to hold the position of assistant coach and scoutman. An agreement was also found again with the athletic trainer Paolo Santorum.

The circle is closed by the confirmation of Susanna Sorrenti as statistical data collector and the new entry Davide Arena as collaborator. However, technical assistant Fortunato Micalizzi will not be there. The company’s thanks to him for his commitment over the years and best wishes for the future.

Flavio Ferrara’s CV is very long. Originally from Palermo, after his debut in men’s C, on the bench of Pallavolo Messina as first coach – a club with which he achieved a fourth place and a promotion to B2 in three years – he moved to Letojanni to lead a women’s B2 team, for then return to the city and join Pgs Savio Messina, in men’s C, for five long seasons. Here too come prestigious placings and a promotion. The experiences with Mondo Giovane followed, before returning to Volleyball Messina with coordination tasks of the youth sector and sitting on the men’s B1 bench. A season in Brolo, always in B1, and the return to Messina. With Savio’s women’s C series he accessed the Play-Offs, while the following year he was called to the Ionian coast by Volley Letojanni in men’s B. These are the years in which, through internships, he continued his training at the Pavesi Federal Center with the Club Italia and the technical staff of the national team. Meanwhile, the new Team Volley club, born from the merger between Pallavolo Messina and Savio, chooses him as coach of the women’s C series which he leads from 2018 to 2020, and then moves to the Akademia Sant’Anna, in B1 series, as assistant coach . Having achieved promotion to A2, he began his journey as second, first to Marco Breviglieri, then to Fabio Bonafede. Next will be his fourth year with president Costantino’s club.

These are Flavio Ferrara’s first statements after confirmation: “In the last season I achieved a lot of satisfaction, both as a team and personally. The goal was to raise the bar by relating to an increasingly higher level. I was able to respond quickly to what the coach asked; this was also possible thanks to the serious, professional and family environment of Akademia where you feel good and work hard. Our mentality will allow us to achieve prestigious goals. I thank the club and our coach, Fabio Bonafede, for their trust.”

Messinese native, born in ’80 but already with significant experience behind him, Daniele Cesareo. Having completed the normal process to obtain the title of coach, he made his debut with Gabbiano and Tremonti, before sitting on the bench of the latter in the women’s Serie D, then in C. In the men’s sector, he accepted the call to take up the role of the role of second coach in succession with Mondo Giovane in D and Pallavolo Messina in C. In the 2013/2014 season, he began his journey as a scoutman with Pallavolo Messina in B1, where he also held the role of second coach. The following year he moved to Brolo in B1 and remained there for two seasons. In the meantime, he begins to collaborate with the company “TieBreakTech” and takes part in the Kinderiadi – Regions Trophy.

His commitment as a scout is also requested by the Under 17 Volleyball Augusta – with which he won the Regional Championship, qualifying for the national finals in Bormio – and by the women’s C Volleyball Team. In 2017 he flew to Turkey for the “Deaflympics” (the Olympic games for the deaf) with the “Microplus” company, before taking on the bench as head coach of the Messina Volleyball team in men’s C. The following year he moved to Santa Teresa in B1 as a scoutman, and then returned to the city with the newly formed Akademia Sant’Anna, again as second and scoutman of Mantarro in B2 and Gagliardi in the first season of B1. He remained in Akademia as assistant coach and scoutman in the year of promotion to A2, continuing his commitment in the last two seasons. For him, also participation, again as a scoutman, in the Mediterranean Games in Algeria in 2022.

“When the president called me for the first time – declares Cesareo – Akademia was in B2. I had other offers from B1 but it was clear that they wanted to go far. I accepted without hesitation; time and results have proven me right. This will be my sixth year with the company that I now consider part of me. It will be a new beginning to experience with all the staff; there is great enthusiasm. We will try to achieve the corporate objectives set.”

It will be the second season with the Akademia Sant’Anna family of athletic trainer Paolo Santorum. Originally from Trento, he himself tells us about his previous work experience: “From 2006 to 2022 I worked as an athletic trainer of what is currently the women’s Trentino Volleyball team – formerly Trentino Rosa – from series B up to series A2 and A1. For a few years I also followed “satellite” volleyball teams in minor leagues (C and D) and I follow some youth-level skiers and climbers (including the Italian under-18 champion)”.

These are Santorum’s statements after confirmation: “I am happy to continue the collaboration with Akademia, after a decidedly positive season. For next year the expectations and objectives are even greater and we have already started working in this direction. I’m sure we will have great satisfaction”
