The funeral of Lorenzo Debar, spokesperson for the Cuneo Sinti community, will be held on Monday at 10 am in the parish church of San Pio The 67-year-old passed away late on Friday evening after suffering a heart attack.
Originally from Bene Vagienna, he was the eldest son of the partisan Amilcare Debar known as “Taro”, born in 1927, who during the civil war enlisted in the 48th Garibaldi Brigade “Dante Di Nanni”, participating in various actions in the Cuneo valleys and then in the liberation of Turin. Lorenzo had inherited from him the role of leader of the community and liaison with the institutions. In 2015 he participated together with about thirty Sinti from the via Passatore camp in the audience with Pope Francis. On a sporting level he was a passionate player of bowls and petanque in the Vita Nova team of Savigliano.
He leaves behind his wife Rosa, his sons Romano, Giuseppe, Fabio and Claudio, three sisters, a brother and eight grandchildren. This evening at 7.30 pm, again in the parish church of Cerialdo, the rosary will be recited.
