The champion Teramo doesn’t make any concessions: Virtus Cupello bids farewell to their excellent season with a defeat

A Sunday of celebration, painless defeat of Virtus Cupello against Teramo, champions of Excellence. In the 34th and final round of the top regional championship everything has already been decided for both teams, the “friendly” match at the end of the championship rewarded league leaders Teramo who greeted the season with their eleventh consecutive useful result (9 wins and 2 draws). 1 to 3 at the end, goals in the first half scored by Dos Santos and D’Egidio, in the second half a trio by Oses and a rossoblù goal by Tafili.

The Teramani won the championship last Sunday, from the rossoblù, before the kick-off they are honored with the “pasillo” of honor, the catwalk (an idea born in the Spanish La Liga) which is reserved, not always, for the team that won the championship. The Cupella-based club also donated a commemorative plaque, to further pay homage to them for their championship victory, with the rossoblù general director Peppino Di Francesco handing it over to captain Ferraioli. Plaques also for 5 rossoblù players, to Stivaletta for reaching 50 goals with the rossoblù shirt (in two seasons), to the captains Berardi and Felice together with Tafili and Troiano for their long militancy with Virtus Cupello.

The match – Coach Fiore (former matchday coach, in red and white for two seasons from 2014 to 2015) has to give up Donatelli, Di Giacomo and the suspended Corrado. In 352 the novelty in the back pack is Tafili set back from his usual field area. Alongside him are captain Felice and Minchillo, on the sides Zaccardi and Troiano. Midfielder with starter’s shirt for 2006 Giardino together with Irace and Squadrone. Offensive tandem made up of Stivaletta and Pedalino, Di Cencio confirmed between the posts. Also absent are coach Pomante, with Esposito, Massarotti, Di Donato and Scipioni out. Large offensive battery, with Dos Santos and D’Egidio there are also Oses and Mercado, Cutilli and Vanzan on the lanes. The starter Negro is in goal, in front of him are Cipolletti, Cangemi and Palmentieri. Pepe, Sanseverino and Tourè were initially rested.

The rossoblù start with the right motivations but in the fifth minute the first message of Sunday is from D’Egidio, sent towards Di Cencio’s goal who responds brilliantly by deflecting into the corner. Two more minutes the home goalkeeper is the protagonist, this time it’s Vanzan who tries from outside, the second rebound arrives for a corner. Minute number eight, Mercado turns on D’Egidio, Di Cencio’s third response arrives in less than two hundred seconds. Virtus Cupello defends itself and in offensive flashes relies on the arrow on the left-handed out, Troiano, among the most proactive. At the top of the hill, the fifteenth D’Egidio tries again from outside, turning millimeters wide. Two minutes after a physical duel between Dos Santos and captain Felice, the Brazilian center forward manages to finish without however finding the target. The half hour arrives and here is the first Cupella call, Irace finishes high from outside. Teramo took the lead in the thirty-fifth minute, Troiano was unable to repel the ball, Dos Santos thanked him and punched Di Cencio. Less than three minutes pass and the red and whites find the second goal, this time the Brazilian center forward dresses as an assistman, D’Egidio serves and beats Cupella’s number one again.

Even the second half isn’t boring at all, in the first minute Felice’s aerial shot controlled by Negro. Three minutes later Dos Santos claims a penalty after a cross with Di Cencio, the Lanciano referee lets it go and indicates the corner. D’Egidio greets the field first and then Dos Santos, between the eleventh and twelfth give and take between Rei and Zaccardi, both miss the target. A minute later Rei focuses and unleashes a left-footed shot which finds Felice saving the goal also with the help of the crossbar. Opportunities abound and sixty seconds before the hour of play Teramo scores the hat trick, volleyed conclusion by Oses, winning diagonal and match on ice. However, the rossoblù want at least a goal and they find it with Tafili, following a winning corner header. Rei also wants to enter the scoreboard but is unlucky, in the twenty-fourth minute another woodwork comes to stop him. Five minutes from the ninetieth minute it’s Bellano’s turn from the limit, a shot high over the crossbar.

Teramo bid farewell to the season with the last eleven consecutive useful results and the “double” championship-Cup, a season worthy of applause also for Virtus Cupello who, despite not managing to overcome the record of points (46, 2014/2015 season) bid farewell to the championship with direct salvation in their pocket for weeks already. We look to the future, after the greeting of mister “Zetu”, Virtus Cupello will certainly have a new coach next season.
