Two criminals broke into a house in the Longuelo neighborhood of the city on the evening of Saturday 27 April, around 9.30pm. The owner, an 85-year-old retired financier, was at home with his wife: he threatened to fire a gunshot, thus injuring one of the two thieves and putting them to flight..

The State Police intervened on the spot and made an arrest the injured man, a 26-year-old young man, homeless Albanian, near the house in via Astino. The young man, whose neck was grazed by the bullet, was not in serious condition and, after the necessary treatment provided at the Papa Giovanni XXIII hospital, was arrested for aggravated robbery and sent to prison on the morning of Sunday 28 April. On Sunday morning, the police also identified the alleged accomplice who had initially disappeared.
The first reconstruction
Everything would have happened in the space of a few minutes on Saturday evening: the two criminals, with his face covered by a balaclava, they would have entered the house (a terraced house on two floors) from a French window at the back using a crowbar to force entry. They would have caught the elderly man in bed while he was watching TV and would have threatened him with handing over money and precious goods. The 85-year-old’s wife, however, was upstairs. The former financier, who was at home alone in recent days, had the gun under his pillow: he would have grabbed the weapon and shot. The thieves then fled, taking the man’s bag with them. His wife, who ran up, alerted 112. One of the two criminals, wounded in the neck, arrived in via Astino and instead called 118 for help. From the initial information on the spot it seems that the 85-year-old regularly held the weapon.
