in Taranto from Tuesday another 97 unemployed

TARANTO – Former Isolaverde, the sad countdown is now coming to an end. And so, next Tuesday 30 April, 97 workers will become unemployed. The project called «Green passage» which involves so-called light reclamation interventions and the removal of bulky waste in twenty green areas of the city, no longer has financial resources to continue. And so, by a truly mocking coincidence, they will lose their jobs on the day it is celebrated (May 1st).

For the record, these workers coming from the Provincial subsidiary (bankrupt in 2015), Taranto Isolaverde, in the last two years have been hired with a fixed-term contract by Kyma Servizi or by the former Infrataras which is a company entirely controlled by the Municipality of Taranto. Who, at the instigation first of the former mayor Stefano and then of Melucci, had come to the aid of the provincial administration by dealing with a difficult dispute which then continued for several years.

And so these operators were employed first in a two-year project called «Green friend» and subsequently in Green passage which, with different roles and resources, saw the collaboration between the Ministry of the Environment, the Puglia Region and the Municipality itself.

In recent days, the municipal and regional councilor of Forza Italia, Massimiliano Di Cuia, raised the issue at Palazzo di Città underlining that «in addition to the social drama for these families, our territory would lose the services that they have guaranteed by improving the environmental situation of important parts of our territory”. For his part, deputy mayor Gianni Azzaro is on the same wavelength and agrees with the Forza Italia supporter on the need “to verify the possibility that, to resolve this situation, the government commissioner for land reclamation, Vito Felice Uricchio, could be involved”. But on the role of the Municipality of Taranto which, through its subsidiary Kyma Servizi, coordinated the latest projects of the 97 former Isolaverde, Azzaro cuts it short: «The point – he states – is not to be in support of these workers who, moreover, have operated but it is that of the financial resources to continue. Which, at the moment, are not there.”
