Giorgia Meloni will be a candidate for European elections, as the head of the list for Fratelli d’Italia in all constituencies. The Prime Minister made her long-awaited decision official during her party’s event underway in Pescara. This is a choice with great communicative and political impact, even if Meloni will not go to Europe as a parliamentarian, but will remain at Palazzo Chigi at the helm of the government. The final decision to run personally is influenced by the indications coming from polling institutes, which indicate that the presence of the leader on the list could bring benefits to Fratelli d’Italia in terms of electoral consensus. Moreover, Meloni is also the leader of ECR, the European group of conservatives and reformists, which aims to be the real surprise of the upcoming consultations for the renewal of the European Parliament. Fratelli d’Italia, then, aims to reach the 30% threshold and significantly increase its presence on the European scene, after having obtained its historic maximum in Italy in the last political elections. And in fact, in your final speech from the party event you concluded: “Think about what we could do if the votes of the conservatives were decisive for the formation of the new European majority. We would be able to do in the EU what we did in Italy, finally sending the left into opposition“.
In her speech in Pescara, the Prime Minister explained the political reasons for her choice, claiming first and foremost the good governance of the majority: “In the past we have seen many parties that were content to manage power, but for us this is not the case, we are not interested in power that does not serve to improve people’s lives. For us, power will never be something we look at with lust: the only thing we look at are our principles and the reality we want to build. […] Today even the most severe observers are forced to take note of the results of our government, especially in the economic field. Even the spread, which was supposed to skyrocket in the dreams of our detractors, maintains its levels. The stock market and government bonds are recording record numbers. We have hit record employment and unemployment is falling. We are more credible than before and more stable. Italy is back, aware of its strength. And I will always protect Italian interests in the world“.
Then on immigration he sinks: “Thanks to the agreement with Tunisia we have reduced departures by 60% and arrested dozens of smugglers. Now we will do the same with Egypt. While the agreement with Albania resists despite the attempted boycott by the opposition, which wanted to oust Edi Rama from the European socialists, just for having helped Italy and acted in the name of solidarity. Even the so-called TeleMeloni, the public service, created a report in which it described Albania as a narco-state. We should stop using do-goodism, migrant trafficking is a more profitable business than weapons and we will move forward, we will not stop to dismantle it“.

There is also room for harsh condemnation of the choices of previous governments, starting with the super bonus: “This time it’s not Europe’s fault, but some cheerful Italian politician. It had a weight, considering all the building bonuses, of over 200 billion euros. It is the largest asset in Italian history, because it gave money to those who were already rich and had one thing. And then we wonder why the left is so strong in the chic neighborhoods where the rich live. There have been scams worth 17 billion euros, I would be curious to understand who these scammers will vote for in the European elections, certainly not for Fratelli d’Italia“.
