Earthquake swarm near Florence, a woman died of a heart attack (due to fear)

The seismic swarm with its epicenter in Barberino di Mugello which began on Friday evening, continued in a less intense manner and with sparser and lower magnitude tremors throughout the night between Saturday and this morning. The last shock recorded by INGV instruments was one of magnitude 2.1 at 7.03 am, again with an epicenter similar to the others, 3 km north of the capital. Every hour there were one or more tremors, mostly around magnitude 1. The authorities reported no critical issues throughout this earthquake.

On the first night, in which there was the peak of a 3.1 earthquake felt in a large part of the province of Florence, a 75-year-old woman, as reported by the newspaper La Nazione, died from an illness, probably a heart attack, while in the in the excitement of the moment she left the house with her husband to find safety in Barberino di Mugello. The victim is Carmela Galgano and she was seen feeling ill and collapsing in the street near her home in via Vespucci. It happened around 1. She was immediately helped by the many people who went outdoors and a 118 volunteer who lives there, reconstructs the newspaper, performed resuscitation maneuvers on her, then an ambulance doctor arrived but it was not possible to save her. The woman and her husband are originally from Laurenzana (Potenza) but moved to Tuscany many years ago. The couple had three children, one became a priest. Also according to the parish priest of Barberino, Don Stefano Ulivi, reports La Nazione, “it must have been the fear generated by the stronger shock” that caused the death, “the husband told me that she was very scared by the earthquake”.
