“Only me is better than me”

The mayor of Sassari, Campus, held a press conference to take stock of the end of his mandate, expressing satisfaction with the work done. Claiming a personal and administrative success, he declared: «Only I, Campus, have done better than Campus». With a defiant tone, he recalled that he had never been touched by accusations, not even anonymous, and underlined the effectiveness of his administration in raising significant funds, well over 153 million euros, despite the political difficulties encountered, such as the exclusion from the metropolitan city during the Pigliaru council. Mayor Campus highlighted the progress made in crucial areas such as the computerization of the municipal administration, investments in road maintenance and projects aimed at reviving the historic center and the San Donato district. He expressed his commitment against degradation, not without controversy, especially for the work of the Fosso della Noce, which aroused criticism from former activists who labeled him as “Attila”.

Campus also touched on the difficult topic of underground car park management, addressing the problematic relationship with the Saba concessionaire and the resulting legal disputes. He expressed himself critically on the delays and objections raised by the Region regarding urban and commercial plans, defining the applied regulations as obsolete. Despite the challenges, Campus recognized the value of municipal staff and stated that he had always acted in the city’s interests, regardless of the desire for popular approval, referring to polls by the City Monitor of Il Sole 24 Ore which had always placed him above above 52% approval. In conclusion, he reiterated his commitment as mayor oriented towards the well-being of the city and not in search of personal love.
