Among the 29 new Standard Bearers of the Republic nominated by the Head of State, Sergio Mattarella, there is a large ‘patrol’ of the Emilia-Romagna award winners made up of 8 young and very young people who stood out for their altruism and solidarity, particularly in the days of the flood May 2023 but not only. Those being celebrated are Emanuele Nicola Affaticati, a 16-year-old from Piacenza who thwarted the plan of a man intent on killing his ex-partner, activating the police after having heard, on the train, the phone call from another passenger who, in Romanian, kept repeating that he was directed by his ex-girlfriend to kill her and Selim Ayach, a 17-year-old resident of Gatteo, in the Cesenate area who performed cardiac massage on an elderly woman who, having just gotten off a bus, had collapsed to the ground due to an illness saving her life, as well as Nicole Minardi, a 14-year-old from Parma who stood out for the tenacity with which she faced the Pan-Pandas syndrome, which is still little known. The gestures of Abderrahim Ben Rhouma, a 14-year-old from Cesena, have once again been recognised, chosen for the civic sense with which he provided assistance during the days of the flood to his community, to the land and to the people who welcomed him when he arrived in Italy from Tunisia with the his family; of Guido Betti, a 19-year-old from Ravenna for having contributed to the creation of an IT platform, which made it possible to organize more than 6 thousand volunteers in rescue operations for the population affected by the flood; by Valeria Frasca, an 18 year old from Forlì who coordinated the activity of young people from all over Italy to help the flood victims; of Letizia Galletti, a 20-year-old from Lugo, for having brought relief with her music to many people forced to abandon their homes following the flood; by Matteo Violani from Faenza, of age today for his volunteer service during the flood that hit his city.
