1 May 2024 at the ancient Ferriere di Ronciglione

What better place to celebrate May 1st if not an ancient ironworks that determined the economic, social and cultural development of an entire territory?

There is talk of a structure located along the Rio Vicano in Ronciglione, which dates back to the 16th century, at the behest of the Farnese family and which, at the time, made Ronciglione a point of reference in the iron industry also used for papal steelmaking activities; where the driving force of water existed, therefore, industry was born, which produced wealth capable of then being transformed into well-being and even art.

A place representative of the economic-cultural roots valued and experienced in Ironworks Museum renovated and reopened on the occasion of May 1, 2024: an important symbolic place to celebrate International Labor Day.

The Ironworks Museum, together with the adjoining and very precious Museum of Typography and Printing, represents an example of industrial archeology which characterizes the landscapes in many parts of our country; they are often redeveloped structures and brought back to daily use, so that their historical memory value can be fully experienced by citizens who recognize themselves as legitimate heirs of those places.

In addition to the necessary thanks to the city administration, this reopening of places so representative of the history and culture of Ronciglione which can be visited and proposed as tourist-educational itineraries, complementary to the already numerous natural and architectural riches of the city.

In Ronciglione, therefore, the demonstrations on May 1st they will begin, at 10:00 am, with a procession which, from the Piazza del Comune, will reach the Ironworks Museum accompanied by the city band “A. Cantiani”, directed by maestro Fernando De Santis; followed by the blessing of the Parish Priest, Monsignor Silvio Iacomi and the greeting of the Mayor, Dr. Mario Mengoni.

You cannot miss the lighting of a forge for the exemplary creation of a tool and the presence of some artists: Noemi Monaldi with her performance “Smoke, fire, water”; the painter Stefano Cianti and the saxophonist Bernardo Lafonte who will propose the live show “Sounds and colors of the soul”, all thus simultaneously engaged in an artistic creation to recall the noises or atmospheres of an ironworks which however through their art becomes sound, color and harmonious movement, of profound emotion for the spectator.
