From wild parking, very popular under the Artist’s Lights, to reckless driving on the Seafront. A wide range of infringements cost you dearly. But not even that much if you look at other people’s homes and to be precise in other Italian municipalities. During 2023, Salerno residents spent just 16.42 euros per capita on the payment of traffic fines and administrative reports. This is what emerges from the analysis of the income flows of the Campania municipalities over the last twelve months photographed by State Accounting through the portal Siop. To date – as far as we know – the most careless Salerno motorists in the 12 months of 2023 have earned the Municipality just 2,086,200.62 euros on the road fines front. But it turns out that the capital of Salerno has much lower revenues than other administrations. Milan, Rome and Florence are the municipalities that, in 2023, collected the greatest proceeds from fines and sanctions against private individuals for violations of the rules of the Traffic Laws: the data emerges from the analysis carried out by Facile.it on Siope data, the information system of the operations of public bodies, which also highlighted how the three municipalities have collected, respectively, more than 147, 138 and 71 million euros . They follow Genoa (which grossed 35.2 million euros in 2023), Bologna (31.6 million), Naples (22.1 million), Padua (21.3 million) e Verona (20.6 million). Overall, in 2023, Italian municipalities collected more than 1.5 billion euros from fines for violations of the Highway Code against families. Salerno is not at all among the top ten cities with the most revenue from traffic fines. The capital has in fact collected “just” 2,080,200, 62 euros according to the Siope system. And the shortfall compared to the 2022 collection is considerable: it is approximately 440 thousand euros, compared to the 2,441,281 euros collected in the same period last year. From the payment of fines and the crackdown on defaulters, an investment plan on road maintenance and safety can be relaunched. The municipal police command is reviewing all unpaid reports to find those who owe traffic fines. In fact, at the beginning of April, the contraventions office of the municipal police command reviewed the reports that had never been paid. These are approximately 13 thousand reports worth 1 million 800 thousand euros. Hence the issue of 7 thousand tax bills which will be sent to the homes of poorly paying Salerno residents.

Returning to focus of Facile.it on the basis of Siope data it is clear that Salerno, in terms of collections from road mules, is in a low position in terms of payments of road fines. Analyzing the data relating to the smallest Italian municipalities, with less than a thousand residents, it ranks first Carrodano, province of La Spezia, which has just 464 inhabitants but, in 2023, collected more than 975 thousand euros in traffic fines.
