The Messina takes leave of the championship C series 2023-2024 with a painless defeat in Monopoli. The match of the 38th and final day of group C of the third national series ends 2-1 for the Apulians. The result was irrelevant for coach Giacomo Modica’s Giallorossi who had achieved safety in the previous round thanks to a 2-2 home draw with Potenza. Messina ends the championship with 45 points. The Apulians, on the other hand, stop at 42 and are condemned to play the play outs to avoid relegation to Serie C.
Monopoli ahead after 10 minutes
In this ranking scenario, it is the Apulians who play the game and their efforts materialize immediately with the 1-0 goal signed in the 10th minute when Borello shoots from the left and is deflected by the goalkeeper Piana, deployed by Modica as the starter for this match match, but Salvo’s unfortunate intervention arrives and he scores an own goal. Modica plays its Plescia and Emmausso cards without however succeeding in its aim of giving vitality forward and creating dangers. Very little happens and the game is fragmented.
