There Mobility Directorate of the Campania Region is working to review the tender for the assignment of Sea Metro, the summer maritime connection service between the ports of Cilento and the cities of Salerno and Naplesbeyond Capri and to Amalfi Coast, for 2024 and 2025. In recent days, in fact, a Santa Lucia Palace, an operational meeting was held, organized by president of the IV Council Commission for Urban Planning, Public Works and Transport, Luca Cascone, with shipping companies, in order to find a solution. The only way out? Review the fees. At present, the costs to be borne by operators in the sector are too high. And it is precisely from Cilento that the proposal of the first citizen of Pollica, Stefano Pisani, who says bluntly: «A commitment on the front line of the Government so that it eliminates, or at least halves, excise duties for public transport in so-called disadvantaged areas”. Moreover, the Metrò del Mare, in previous years, represented an important service for the area, which is why local administrators hope that a solution can be found quickly. Tour operators are of the same opinion, as underlined in recent days through a note from Provincial Confesercenti.
«The sea routes are the strong point for Cilento for accessing the territory. With a extraordinary port network that extends from Agropoli to Sapri, counting 10 ports at a distance of 7/8 nautical miles from each other makes it unique in its kind” had, in fact, declared the president Raffaele Esposito. The same thing had already happened last year when the failure of operators in the sector to participate in the first tender had led to the postponement of the service on schedule, except for the activation of sea connections only in the month of August.
